Blog - What are the benefits of inventory management using QR codes?

Inventorying is often a time-consuming and staff-intensive process. Especially because companies and other organisations use outdated asset accounting software or keep paper records. That's why we use QR code inventory in Asset Manager. This method of inventorying is simple, time-saving and requires minimal effort from staff.

What are the advantages of inventory management using QR codes?

  • Simple and fast inventory: scanning QR codes is a quick process that minimizes the time needed to inventory assets.
  • Minimal staff effort: Staff do not have to manually locate and record inventory numbers, reducing effort and the risk of errors.
  • Automatic asset tagging: The system automatically marks assets as inventoried when the QR code is scanned, eliminating errors and dishonest behavior.
  • Easy access to information: the QR codes allow easy access to detailed asset information directly in the Asset Manager application.

What is the QR code, you ask?

This is a type of matrix barcode or, more simply, a two-dimensional barcode.

In the Asset Manager application, all assets are tagged with a QR code. Each asset has a unique QR code that also serves as its identifier. But do not confuse it with the inventory number, it is listed separately in the app.

The QR code can be found on the asset card, you can print it out and stick it on the asset, at the same time you have basic information about the asset such as Name and inventory number on the label.

We don't just use QR codes for inventory, but you can also scan it outside of inventory, for example if you want to know more information about an asset, request a move or perhaps a repair. This way you don't have to search by inventory number or name, but simply scan directly in the app.
